And the WTF? cover song of the day is... Radiohead covering "Rhinestone Cowboy". This gave me a much needed giggle.

Did Hugh Everett's "many worlds" theory cover one where his son became a carrot?

Wow, has it really been 6 weeks since I last posted? Oops.

To be honest, I've pretty much been a non-entity everywhere online for the last month or so. I've been so exhausted after work lately that the last thing I want to do is stare at a computer screen for the rest of the night. I've been reading through a couple of things here and there on a semi-regular basis, but some nights I don't even turn on the laptop. I've got a ton of email piled up and unopened. My blip.fm account is badly neglected. I've got 6 or 7 requests for Twitter that I need to sort through. I'm almost afraid to sign into Facebook; who knows how much crap I've got waiting for me there....

I decided to take an extended weekend and blow a few vacation days. Between today and tomorrow, I'll hopefully knock out a healthy chunk of my to-do list.

So what have I been doing instead of playing around on the interwebz?

Working my ass off - My co-worker took a week of vacation at the beginning of July, which was when we had the power failure. I got totally slammed with mail, but couldn't do any certifying because it required me to verify things online and scan the completed apps. She returned for a week, and then was out sick for another week. (She was scheduled for a pacemaker replacement, but her heart decided that wasn't soon enough. Not that she was actually at her desk while she was at work. She tends to wander around the building quite a bit) So for most of July, I was the certification department, and handled all of the incoming mail, phone calls, and walk-in clients. And since this wasn't quite crazy enough, my supervisor changed my scheduling requirements 4 times in less than 2 weeks. The whole support department has been running low on clients to call for appointments, and I found myself trying to fill 15 appointments with 7 numbers on my client list. Oh, and the Post Office decided to screw up and not deliver the majority of our mail for the last 2 weeks. The missing delivery showed up at 2:30 on Friday afternoon - all 306 pieces of it. I sorted out the easy stuff before I left for the weekend, but I've still got 100 or so applications waiting for my return on Wednesday.

Oh, and I left without turning in my time sheet, so I need to stop in this morning if I want to get paid on Wednesday.

Adding a bunch of crap to my iPod - I decided to make a new playlist one night last month (inspired by woxy.com's upcoming move to Austin), which led to me pulling out another 20 or 30 CDs to add to Antoinette's library. It's a work in progress.

Watching a lot of TV and movies - I've been trying not to let stuff pile up on my TiVo, but it's a daunting task. I watch a lot of random shows, and the Saturday night movies on WCET have been taking up a lot of room. (Last weekend they ran Annie Hall; this week they ran The Magnificent Ambersons and Six Degrees of Separation, followed by a Nova episode on fractals. Yay!) I've also been watching Warehouse 13 on Hulu, and I've been using my Netflix account more often than I previously was. Tonight i need to clean out my Season Pass list and get ready for the upcoming fall season.

(I had completely forgotten that Ian McKellen, Anthony Michael Hall, and Heather Graham were in Six Degrees of Separation. The truly random casting, though, was Anthony Rapp, and J.J. Abrams. Yes, you read that right. J.J. Abrams!)

Randomly running into people at Spring Grove Cemetery - I met up with a bunch of Browncoats (and half of my pub trivia team) for the Monuments by Moonlight tour. Shortly before our group left, I turned around to find memnochlv and zappagirl standing five feet behind me. Bonus taco!

Laughing my ass off at Rifftrax Live - seelix had an extra ticket to the live Rifftrax showing of Plan 9 from Outer Space. I don't think I've ever laughed that much at the theater.

Seeing bands on Fountain Square and elsewhere - I've tried to make it to most of the Indie Summer shows on Friday nights, and ended up running into a friend whose band was playing at midnight that night. I had just enough time to run home after the Newbees show, look up directions, and head back out to see The Green Room. Saturday night, I met up with seelix in Dayton for the Sky Kings show. And last week, I met up with fyshmom and her kids for World Wide Wednesday on the Square. It's been a good summer for shows, and we've still got a few more weekends before Midpoint Music Festival starts. Whee!

(For those who weren't able to make it to the Newbees show, they're the Artists in Residence next month at Southgate House; they'll be playing with the string quintet on the 16th. Highly recommended, as is the September 12th show at Southgate House with The Seedy Seeds, The Receiver, and You, You're Awesome. That's an awesome triple bill!)

Trying to remember how I dressed in the 80s and recreate it - An old friend of mine is throwing a BackBeat dance party this weekend, and the guests have been encouraged to dress appropriately. I've got everything except for the multicolored tights, and they hopefully should be delivered before Saturday. (I got an email of the evening's playlist, and it's simply amazing. I may not leave the dance floor all night!)

Reading - I finally finished off the stack of books I got off the Barnes and Noble bargain table back in April. I'm now reading an incredibly random book on the history of rock music. I think I'd be enjoying it more if I didn't totally hate the author's musical tastes.

Sleeping - Ahhh, sleep. Sleep is gooooooood.

Being excessively lazy - Not that anything's changed there, but that will be coming to an end shortly. The Midpoint schedule is up, and I need to put together a workable itinerary for the three nights of shows. (I think I'm almost done with Thursday night, so I've only got 180 or so more bands to check out, right?)

All of that can wait until later tonight, though. It's a beautiful day, all of the kids are back in school, and I'm off work. I'm headed to Kings Island for the day for a little coaster therapy....
